Visual Art with Mr. Gries:
Grade 3
Third grade artists take a deep dive into ancient cultures and civilizations around the world. We study their unique artistic qualities and give students an opportunity to create a project using that culture's signature style. Students are encouraged to think creatively and incorporate their own personal flare into their pieces.
Grade 4
Fourth grade artists explore the Renaissance (1500), Baroque (1600-1700), and Impressionism (1800). Students witness a shift in how and why artists from these time periods chose to create their art. Fourth graders use a variety of materials and tools while implementing the elements and principles into their art.
Grade 5
5th graders examine art created in the 20th and 21st century. Abstract and Contemporary art are two terms fifth graders become familiar with throughout the year, and they utilize that information to create their own conceptual art. Fifth graders use the design-thinking process to infuse meaning into each of their works. Fifth graders also continue to implement the elements and principles of art into their learning.
Art Club
Art club is designed for creators of all levels and experiences. We will focus on stirring creative juices in a judgment free environment by creating a clay creation and mosaic project. By the end of the 4 weeks, students will feel a sense of pride and accomplishment in their design plans to final art creation.
Go Time for All ES Grades
Students work together with their classmates to create art! 4th graders will explore a variety of art styles and develop projects using the design thinking process. Students will also use organizational techniques while handling art supplies and discuss opportunities to showcase their art throughout the year.
